About MYB

In 1994, a group of Melrose residents interested in the arts decided to give Northshore dancers an opportunity to perform in a full-length production of The Nutcracker. After one year of fund-raising efforts in the community, a Board of Directors was formed and enough money was raised to pay for the stunning scenery and costumes that make ballet productions so special.  Since 1995, MYB has made The Nutcracker an annual tradition in the city of Melrose. This classic ballet has been staged annually at the Melrose Memorial Hall in the 16 years following its debut. On average, our youth cast consist of hundreds of dancers from more than 12 surrounding communities enrolled in various dance schools.

Over the years, several Artistic Directors have led MYB's production of The Nutcracker. Credits include, Terry Fox, Tamlyn Bernhausen, Alfonso Figuera, Katie Pesce, and currently, Jaclyn Demianiuk.

In 2006, MYB hired resident Artistic Director, Jaclyn Demianiuk who hails from the Northshore and holds a B.A. in Dance from UMass Amherst. In 2008, Artistic Director, Jaclyn Demianiuk and Assistant Director, Christina Leonard-Kristan produced MYB’s first summer show.  Since then MYB has expanded their repertoire to include 2009’s Summer Gala performance, 2010’s full-length ballet, Cinderella, , 2011's ballet production ofCoppelia, The Four Seasons, a collaboration with guest choreographers showcasing contemporary and classical work in August 2012, and most recetly, a playful 3-act ballet of "Alice in Wonderland". MYB is celebrating it's 20th anniversary presentation of The Nutcracer in December 2014.
